Let them eat candy!

Today my kids will be allowed to eat as much candy as they want. I don’t care if they have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (although I doubt that their stash will last that long). They can eat candy until their fingers are gooey and their tummies ache. Lollipops, taffy, malt balls, bubble gum, gum drops, chocolate bars, sugar sticks, etc., etc., etc....
I am a firm believer that in order to be a good mother you must be willing to break the rules. Obviously children need discipline and as parents we must enforce limits and boundaries. But children also need to appreciate flexibility and spontaneity. Trying to live life according to plan eliminates the opportunity to enjoy the unexpected. Also, my theory is that if you allow your children to enjoy some supervised indulgences every once in a while then they are less likely to go looking for irresponsible outlets of rebellion later in life. So let your children live a little out of the box from time to time. Let them eat candy!

...just be sure to make them brush their teeth afterwards.
